Inspired by our members – Vitality Victories
American actor Will Rogers once commented that when someone else blows your horn, the sound carries twice as far. Annually we invite Vitality members to share their Vitality Victory and were amazed by the overwhelming number of testimonials received. More than 1,300 members of different ages, industries and walks of life from across the nation have inspired us with their Vitality Victories.
Throughout the year, we’ll be sharing some of the responses from our members in the hopes that it will motivate others and help carry the message of the impact of Vitality for our members’ health and wellbeing.
Off blood pressure meds
From December 2018 to January 2020, I have lost exactly 150 pounds with the help of Vitality’s goal setting and workout trackers! With the help of Vitality along with proper diet, exercise, and my medical team I was able to get off three high blood pressure medications and fit into clothes I haven’t worn since college! I have more energy, more confidence, and the willpower to believe that anything is possible with hard work and determination! Cheers to another great year of victories!

No more excuses to be active
My Vitality victory was getting more active in 2019. Like many others, I wanted to exercise more but I always found an excuse. The Vitality program was a great gentle reminder that I needed to do something different. I absolutely love how the Vitality program is there to improve my entire wellbeing. Every time I open the Vitality app I’m reminded to eat better, get up and move, pay attention to where my money is going, and be mindful of how I feel. I have no doubt I am better off because of my participation in the Vitality program this past year.

Meditating to improve mental health
I have suffered from PTSD for over 20 years and continue to battle with the symptoms that have become more intense as I’ve gotten older. At times I have severe anxiety and insomnia due to nightmares and depression. About a year ago, I was trying to find ways to earn more Vitality points to get to the next tier and found the meditation activity. I chose to use the Calm app and started off with simple meditation lessons. I explored the Calm app more and found the sleep stories and began falling asleep listening to them. I soon realized I was falling asleep easier and faster and added the use of the nature sounds (I enjoy the falling rain) which I set to play through the night after the story ended. This addition helped to keep me asleep through the night. With the combination of the sleep stories, the nature sounds and the guided meditation, I have been able to tremendously reduce the episodes and effects of the symptoms of PTSD. To me this is a huge Vitality Victory. My days and nights are much more pleasant, and this has greatly improved my morale at work and socially.

Improving health as a family
My Vitality Victory is one I accomplished with my wife as well. Together we have become more active and started walking more than we had in the past. To others this may not be a big deal but to us it’s huge. My wife was wheelchair dependent due to an illness and was limited as to what she could do physically, and I used this as an excuse to stop doing what I could to become healthier. But we changed our way of thinking and started eating healthier foods and stopped eating out as much. Our snacks have become healthier and we’ve started to lose a bit of weight.

Financial and physical fitness
Because of Vitality I have made some great changes in my life. My wife and I did a 12-week course on Financial Health where we were able to create a budget and “Get out of debt” plan and set some important goals for our future. Also, because of Vitality we have both started eating and sleeping better, reduced our sugar intake drastically and improved our positivity levels. I have lost 20 pounds and she has lost 15. We are happier, healthier, and have more energy. We have four young kids and this extra energy has been wonderful. Thank you Vitality!
