It’s National Sunscreen Day, and while we all love the warmth and energy of the sun, it’s important to enjoy it safely! Sunlight boosts vitamin D, improves mood, and supports better sleep, but too much exposure without protection can lead to serious skin damage. Here’s how to soak up the benefits while staying safe:

Sunscreen 101

  • Apply early: at least 15–30 minutes before heading outside.
  • Choose broad-spectrum: It protects against both UVA & UVB rays.
  • Go for SPF 30+: Lower SPFs may prevent burns but not skin cancer.
  • Reapply every 2 hours, or more often if you’re swimming or sweating.
  • Don’t skip your lips: Use SPF 30+ lip balm.
  • Don’t be fooled by overcast skies: Up to 89% of UV rays can pass through clouds.

Bonus Protection Tips:

  • Wear sun-protective clothing and wide-brimmed hats.
  • Use sunglasses with 99–100% UV protection.
  • Be extra cautious between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when rays are strongest.
  • Check your medications, as some increase sun sensitivity.

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, so treat it with care! Love the sun, but protect your glow by following these sun safety tips.
