The Commission, whose mandate was from May 2013 to June 2014, worked to close the gaps in evidence and place the power of prevention at the center of health policies and actions in the US. It focused on preventing major non-communicable diseases—cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular and chronic respiratory diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, and mental illness—which threaten the economic competitiveness and the vitality of our nation. By working with stakeholders from across all sectors of society, it was dedicated to creating solutions that address the issues in bold and transformative ways.
